Sarina Business on Show - Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Despite the wet weather, an enthusiastic crowd of about 70 people turned out to support Mackay Regional Council's Sarina Business on Show Forum held on Wednesday, September 22, at the Sarina Cultural Hall.

Tourism and Economic Development portfolio councillor David Perkins thanked the representatives from dozens of organisations/departments who manned displays to showcase their business as part of the forum.

"The number of displays was certainly impressive as was the qualityof them which, in my opinion, helped to highlight the diverse range of businesses and services available in the Sarina area," he said.

Cr Perkins said face-to-face forums, such as this one held in Sarina, coupled with using council's rapidly growing business email networks was a great way to keep in close contact with local business people.

"Working in partnership with local businesses is intergral to maximising the economic potential of our region. Our business email networks, coupled with regular forums, allow busines people from a range of local industries to learn more about future business growth opportunities and council initiatives, and gives them the opportunity to offer input into the future direction of growth and development in the region," he said.

One of the top priorities for Sarina, as indicated by the evening's attandants, included promoting Sarina's unique sense of identity as well as the range of businesses, facilities and attractions the area has to offer both newcomers and visitors.
