Who needs a registration?
The applicant for a registration must be a legal entity (e.g. person(s) or company). Note - a business name or shop name is not a legal entity and cannot be the registration holder.
Environmentally Relevant Activities (ERAs) are defined and categorised under schedule 2 of the Environmental Protection Regulation 2008, dependent upon their potential risk to the environment.
A business that conducts any of the following activities requires an Operators Registration from council.

Part 1 - Aquaculture and intensive animal industry
ERA 4: Poultry farming (more than 1,000 birds)
Part 2 - Chemical, coal and petroleum products activities
ERA 6: Asphalt manufacturing
ERA 8: Chemical storage (storing 10m3 to 500m3 of chemicals of class 1 or 2 combustible liquids under AS 1940 or dangerous goods class 3)
ERA 12: Plastic product manufacturing including fibreglass (more than 5 tonnes/year)
Part 5 - Fabricated metal product activities
ERA 17: Abrasive blasing
ERA 18: Boiler making or engineering (more than 200 tonnes/year)
ERA 19: Metal forming (more than 10,000 tonnes/year)
ERA 20: Metal recovery including auto dismantling
ERA 21: Motor vehicle workshop operations including panel beating and spray painting
Part 8 - Miscellaneous activities
ERA 37: Printing (more than 200 tonnes/year)
ERA 38: Surface coating, including spray painting and galvanising (up to 100 tonnes/year)
Part 9 - Non-metallic mineral product manufacture
ERA 43: Concrete batching (more than 200 tonnes/year)
ERA 48: Wood product manufacturing including pre-fabricating (more than 100 tonnes/year)
Part 11 - Transport and maritime services
ERA 49: Boat maintenance or repair
Part 12 - Waste management
ERA 61: Waste incineration and thermal treatment of vegetation, clean paper or cardboard
