Applying for a job at council

Applications for employment with Mackay Regional Council should be lodged through Council’s website.

You will need to submit a separate application for each position you are interested in.  Many positions require specific qualifications or experience, which are identified in the position description, and can be accessed on the Job Vacancies page.  Applicants are encouraged to carefully consider your qualifications and/or experience, as your application may not be considered if you are unable to meet these requirements.

The position description will also identify any selection criteria applicable to the role.  In your cover letter, you should outline your knowledge, skills and experience, providing linkages with the selection criteria contained in the Position Description. If a statement addressing the selection criteria is requested, it is encouraged that you do provide one, as applications received without a completed selection criteria (when requested) may not be considered.

It is recommended that your application is lodged as a single electronic document, including your cover letter, resume, statement addressing the selection criteria and any other information that you think may be helpful in your application.

Some other helpful hints that you may wish to consider are:

• Number each page of your application
• Be sure to include your full name and methods of contact
• Give your application a file name which reflects your name and the position you are applying (e.g. Coverletter and Resume for A Applicant – Call Centre Officer.doc)

When you can expect to hear from us

After applying online, you will receive an immediate email acknowledgement that your application has been received.  Successful applicants will generally be notified within two to four weeks of the interview. Due to the large volume of applications received, we are unable to contact unsuccessful candidates directly, however please check your email account and log-in to Mackay Regional Council e-recruitment regularly for any updates to your application.
