Sports and Recreation
Council’s Recreation Services program consists of 40+ staff dedicated professionals in various areas including Management, Sport & Recreation, Aquatic Operations, Aquatic Activities & Promotions, Facility Supervision, Lifeguarding, Swim Teaching/Coaching and Administration/Support.
Together, the team is responsible for the planning and development of sport and recreation throughout the region and the delivery of aquatic services at council’s five aquatic facilities: Bluewater Lagoon (Mackay), Memorial Swim Centre (Mackay), Pioneer Swim Centre (North Mackay) and the Sarina and Mirani Swim Centres (which are leased to external operators).
Whilst the Sport & Recreation staff are the one-stop-shop for all sport and recreation related matters, including planning, projects, club development and the promotion of physical activities, the aquatics team is responsible for the delivery of safe aquatic services to 500,000+ visitors who attend our facilities on an annual basis.
