Many Mackay streets are named and dedicated in honour of the fallen who gave their lives for us to enjoy peace.
Mackay Regional Council is keen to heighten awareness of that history, launching its Lest We Forget Soldier Street Naming Project to install specially designed street blades, to commemorate the soldiers as part of Mackay 150 celebrations.
Much of the information and research was conducted by Basil Graham, local history enthusiast and students from Mackay North State High School 'Lest We Forget' Project.
This is a tangible way council can promote our stories, our people and our places as part of the
Mackay 150 commemorations and recognise the
supreme sacrifices of those soldiers who lived in
our region.
