History Bits in Kits
Mackay Regional Council Libraries' History Bits in Kits resources are a series of themed local history resources, designed to assist schools, teachers, local historical groups, societies and museums, in promoting the history and heritage of the Mackay region.
Each Kit contains:
>10 photographs relevant to the kit theme
>Power-point presentation on CD
>Information booklet
The History Bits in Kits Project is an initiative of Mackay Regional Council Libraries funded by State Library of Queensland Library Strategic Development Grants and Mackay City Council.
Kit 1 - People
A selection of images depicting the early and historical infrastructure of the region.
Kit 2 - Early settlement
A selection of images depicting the early and historical infrastructure of the region.
Kit 3 - Sugar industry
Photographs pertinent to the activities of Mackay's early sugar related activity and industry.
Kit 4 - Places and events
A range of images selected to invoke discussion about different places and events in Mackay's history. Some of the buildings remain standing today.
Kit 5 - The 1918 cyclone
The 1918 cyclone was a significant 'event' in Mackay's historical time-line. This kit may assist in supporting classroom activities related to natural disasters.
Kit 6 - South Sea Islanders
A selection of images depicting South Sea Islander history.
History Bits in Kits can be issued to teachers/educators on an educator’s card. Contact the library for details regarding these kits or about obtaining an educators card.
