Swimming pool fences

The Building Act 1975 requires that all pools must have adequate fencing.

All swimming pools must display mandatory CPR signage that meets current best practice.

Legislation

There is now one pool safety standard for all regulated pools. Both new and existing pools must comply with the standard within five years, or earlier if sold or leased or another accommodation agreement is entered into prior to 1 December 2015.

Pools found non-compliant, or referral by a Swimming Pool Safety Inspector, are likely to receive a fine.

To find out more about the new Queensland pool safety laws visit the Department of Infrastructure and Planning website http://www.dlgp.qld.gov.au/poolsafety.

The Department of Infrastructure and Planning website also contains a record of pools in Queensland, copies of pool safety certificates issued and a list of licensed pool safety inspectors in the Mackay region.
