Level 2 measures

Private gardens

Private gardens must not be watered except by means of:

• Sprinklers that operate only between 6:00am & 8:00am and between 6:00pm & 8:00pm (on alternate days)*
• Hand-held trigger hose only between 5:00am & 9:00am and between 5:00pm & 9:00pm
• Microspray or drip system that operates only between 6:00pm & 8:00am
• Watering can or bucket, at any time.

Swimming pools & spas

• Newly constructed swimming pools and spas must not be filled for the first time without the written approval of Mackay Regional Council
• Existing swimming pools and spas must not be topped up except by means of a hand-held hose or containers filled directly from taps
• Portable wading pools must not be filled except by means of a hand-held trigger hose or containers filled directly from taps
• Fountains and water ornaments must not operate unless they recycle the water contained
• Water lost from fountains and water ornaments must not be replaced
• Water toys / facilities must not be used unless supervised by a person 18 years or over to ensure water is not wasted 

Around the home

• Water must not be used to clean windows except by means of a watering can or buckets filled directly from a tap;
• Water must not be used to clean paved areas unless cleaning is required as a result of an accident, fire, health or safety reason, construction, building or like activity, storm or other emergency.

Vehicles and boats

Water must not be used to clean private and public owned vehicles and boats except by means of:

• A hand-held trigger hose and then only to initially wet or rinse after washing;
• Watering can or buckets filled directly from a tap;
• High-pressure low-volume water blaster;
• Automatic commercial car wash facility that recycles at least 50% of the water used

*Note:

1. "Alternate days" means: Properties with an odd street number or without a street number may water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.  Properties with an even number may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday;
2. Microspray and drip systems shall have an operating timer fitted in accordance with the policy.
3. Any reference to approval or permission means by Mackay Regional Council.
4. Handheld hoses must be under the control of or the supervision of a person 16 years or older.
