Decorate a Mandap with colour and crepe paper
September 16 to October 1, 2023
Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm
Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 3pm

Inspired by Zanny Begg’s video work ‘Stories of Kannagi’ on show at Artspace Mackay, we’ve constructed a Mandap (a four-post structure traditionally used in India for special ceremonies) and we need your help to make it a special, beautiful and colour-filled space! This project is for all ages and abilities, so bring your family and use the many colourful crepe-paper streamers and instructions provided to make a variety of beautiful garlands to adorn the Mandap. Together, we’ll create a thoughtfully decorated structure that brings joy and helps you to feel special just standing within it! Make sure to take a photo of you and your family inside the Mandap to take home! Free entry, no bookings required. See below for special opening hours by Foodspace Café over select school holiday weekends.

Enter the miniature sugar mill to see how sugar cane is crushed, and sample deliciously sweet sugar cane juice straight from the miniature mill, 'Bill the Mill Junior’.

Special stickers help the kids to understand the machines that work in the process from turning juice into sugar – they can touch and feel the different stages of the production from the bagasse to the sugar and taste the molasses! They will also receive a free information sheet at the end, which is great for school projects, and the quick, fun quiz will help to keep the young ones engaged - they are guaranteed to learn something!
