The “purrfect” Mackay Show display

Published: 11 Jun 2024

Council's Mackay Show display will have something for the whole family this year - even your family’s furry friend.

Mayor Greg Williamson said this year’s display would have heaps of prizes on offer, including two “purrfect” pet pamper packs.

“Our Local Laws team will be promoting pet registration at the Mackay Show and have partnered with Mackay City Pet Barn to offer an incentive for new pet registrations,” Mayor Williamson said.

“Any resident who registers their pet for the first time in June and fills in an entry form at the Mackay Show will go in the draw to win one of two, five-hundred-dollar pet pamper packs,” he said.

“If people can’t make it to the Show, they can still enter by filling in an entry form on the council Show web page and registering their pet online.

“There is also a photo competition available for people who have already registered a pet with council where they can upload their favourite photo of their pet at the Show display or online to go into the draw to win a one hundred dollar pet voucher.

“Pet registration is an important part of being a responsible pet owner as it ensures that if your pet goes missing, council has your most up-to-date contact details so we can return your pet to you as soon as possible."

Mayor Greg Williamson said Sarina Sugar Shed was also back by popular demand and would be the centrepiece of the pavilion again this year.

“The Sugar Shed team will have a delicious range of free taste-testers for people to try and buy, including their award-winning sauces, chutneys and liqueurs," he said.

“There will also be fairy floss for sale for the kids and the Sugar Shed will even have an augmented reality board, allowing people to interact with the display in virtual reality.

"Ranger Ros will also make an appearance during the busy times of the Show to entertain the kids.”

Mayor Williamson said the theme for the display this year was #discovermackay.

“The Discover Mackay theme blends well with the Sarina Sugar Shed display, but also with the Finch Hatton Mountain Bike Trails display that will be back again this year to promote the trails,” Mayor Williamson said.

“While at our display, people can put on a virtual reality headset and ride our newly completed trails at Finch Hatton,” he said.

“We will also have a free photobooth from Twilight Events to capture your 2024 Show moment with family and friends.

“Show-goers will also have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win five hundred dollars in Sugar Shed hampers and vouchers.

“To enter, visitors need to fill in a digital entry at the Sugar Shed booth and tell us in 30 words or less what they love about our region."

Some other highlights at the Mackay Regional Council Show display, located on the ground floor of the 500 Pavilion, include:

  • Free chilled-water refill station.
  • A range of interactive booths, including Water and Waste Services, the MECC, Libraries, Major Projects, Local Laws, Sarina Sugar Shed, artisan stall holders from the community and more.
  • Australian Breastfeeding Association will have a fully stocked mums and bubs booth, with a private space available for parents to relax and take care of their young children.

Council’s Mackay Show display hours are 2pm to 8pm Tuesday (June 18), 10.30am to 8pm Wednesday (June 19) and 9am to 4pm on the public holiday (Thursday, June 20).
